Looking After Yourself
Looking After Yourself
When I was in hospital constantly I dropped to 7.5 stones and stood at 5ft8 my body had literally withered away and took my happy spirit with it. I’m still trying to get that back, it’s a daily struggle. I’ve said before that sickle cell can wreak havoc on your body physically but it also effects the body internally. The organs such as liver, kidneys, lungs, spleen, heart and the eyes as well as bones and joints can be effected due to sickle cell.
At the age of 19 my body felt physically like an older woman which was something that scared me; it still does till this day as I constantly worry about my future. I often say that with sickle cell there’s nowhere to run or hide which is the hardest thing to deal with. I often feel like there is no escape which makes me a prisoner of my own body.
As I got older I realised that I had to look after the preservation of my body not just physically but what I put in my body and how I treat it. Sickle cell works against you in many ways and it can be extremely difficult, that’s why I try my best to look after myself the best way I know how.
My sicklecellfamily it’s so important for you to have your own prevention and care plan not just what the doctors say. I continue to pray for your health, happiness, hope, and strength. Alhumdulilah.
