BDB & Vivian Oparaku meets St Marys Adolescent Sickle Support Group.

In a bid to help Vivian (one of our service users and now volunteer) develop her self-confidence and gain experience, we assigned her with the task of facilitating the St Mary’s Adolescent Sickle Support Group Christmas 2017 dinner. See below for her account of the event.

‘First of all, I organised a Christmas dinner for St Mary’s teenagers that are living with Sickle Cell. I was the project Manager so I was in overall charge of the planning and execution of the dinner. I helped arrange the menu, food, beverages, and decorations. I picked out some of the gifts and wrapped them. I liaised with the photographer and gave him directions. As well as designed a banner.

I was really confident in my task and how to properly execute them, even when many things went horribly wrong due to different factors my inner boss lady came out and those things that I was in charge of were executed to the best of my abilities.

This has pushed me to make critical decisions and voice my opinions. Overall my experience on this project was life changing, it showed me what to expect and how to improvise even when things don’t go right.’
