Our Live Q&As are a chance for members of the sickle cell community to learn more about sickle cell and the impact of coronavirus, as well as to ask questions of an expert panel.

Friday 5th November 2021
Over a year on from the previous Q&A, the fourth Sickle Cell Society’s Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Sickle Cell Live Q&A took place on Friday 5th November 2021.
The session started with a presentation from Dr Mark Layton (Consultant haematologist and SCS Medical Adviser) who took us through the most up-to-date data on COVID-19 within the sickle cell population.
The floor was then opened up for questions from members of the sickle cell community from across the country.
The Q&A panel consisted of:

The Sickle Cell Society’s third Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Sickle Cell Live Q&A took place on: Friday 11th September, 4pm-5pm
It was attended by people from across the country who asked questions around sickle cell and coronavirus to our expert panel and saw presentations on clinical, patient and research perspectives.

The Sickle Cell Society’s first Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Sickle Cell Live Q&A took place on Friday 15th May 2020 at 3pm-4pm. It was attended by people from across the country who asked questions around sickle cell and coronavirus to our expert panel.
The panel consisted of John James OBE (Chief Executive of the Sickle Cell Society) and June Okochi (Head Of Program Management at NHS West Essex CCG, and Lead Mentor of SCS Mentoring Programme).
Unfortunately we had some technical issues so other panel members Professor David Rees (Consultant Paediatric Haematologist and SCS Medical Adviser) and Dr Kofi Anie (Consultant Psychologist and SCS Medical Adviser) were not able to join us.

Just to clarify, at the beginning of the video when we talk about shielding letters, we mean that all patients with a sickle cell disorder (e.g. HbSS, HbS Beta thalassaemia, HbSC, HbSD, HbSO) should shield.
